Except how often would people split their votes? Most people would probably vote the same game's character for both matches.

Anyway, I came back into this topic when I saw some discussion about the potential Round 3 between Samus/Ridley and Big Boss/The Boss and noticed that the 2010 X-Stats actually have Ridley > Big Boss straight-up.

I'm pretty sure nobody would actually take that. LOL X-Stats indeed. (The adjusted X-Stats agree with this, giving Big Boss the win with 58.52% whereas the raw X-Stats have Ridley with 50.33%). The source is obvious, too--Ridley ended up losing directly to Cloud, whereas Big Boss lost directly to Mario. That gives both of them just 2 degrees of losing from the champ, but Mario gets SFFed to hell by Link while Cloud doesn't.

Samus isn't going anywhere. No NN team is going to lose to a non-NN team this year.

In 2004 with a similar deflation of votals we saw a marked increase in the more obscure brands with the power of Chrono Trigger being particularly noticeable. I wouldn't bank on that remaining the same, is the core Gamefaqs audience really 90's gamers anymore? According to the latest age poll 75% of visitors are under 25. Kinda hard to see the Snes era returning to power amongst an audience who were predominantly at most 10 at the time.

I'm under 25, and I would vote 90% of SNES games/characters over newer ones. If the majority of the site was under 20, you might have a point.

Doing a quick look at the BOP everyone so far (8 brackets) has Fox/Wolf > Yuna/Seymour. While I also have that I would think people would take the upset, maybe it's too early to say right now.

One of those cases where I think the "rivalry" wins out over the transient strength of the characters.

X/Zero as a 1 seed? That has to be the highest Guru nom ever! And to think, I was worried it wouldn't make the cut. I also like how prominent they are in the banner!

X/Zero > Mario/Bowser would be the greatest result in contest history if it happened.

Kind of disappointed with some of the seeding though. Would like to have seen X/Zero go up against one of the weaker NNers

Also, another Squall/Sora matchup? Ugh.

And what the hell is going on in Phoenix Wright's division? That's a mess.

Cloud isn't that much weaker than Link. Sephiroth is a lot stronger than Ganondorf and likely overlaps less with Cloud than Ganondorf does with Link. Neither overlap is 100%. If Cloud/Sephiroth beats Link/Ganondorf, you get a lot more leeway with your performance in the earlier rounds to finish in the Top 50 or win a prize.

Bingo. I think the votals in the Link/Ganon and Cloud/Seph matches speak for itself how much overlap there is.

Chrono Cross is a steaming pile for a variety of reasons:

- Craps all over Chrono Trigger, from the characters, to the setting, to the villain and to the main story premise
- Battle system is clunky and terrible. The whole "stamina" thing is absolutely pointless. Then you have certain enemies which require either a lot of luck, or knowledge of what's coming up to prepare elements and crap. I challenge anyone to tell me they beat Miguel on their first playthrough without using a guide.
- Plot is confusing and pointless and ties in loosely at best to the series story
- The whole part where you play as Lynx was a complete waste of time and could have been skipped
- The fact that the CC world map is supposed to fit into the CT world map, but is clearly not there.

About the only thing CC had going for it was the graphics and the soundtrack.

I don't see how X/Zero is any different than Ryu/Ken.

Hell, if anything, this is a stronger rivalry, since at certain points in the X and Zero series, one or the other is the main antagonist of the story.

Well, even though I think Link and Zelda in general is getting weaker, Cloud and FF7 is likely falling even faster. If anyone is going to be beating Link/Ganon, its not Cloud/Seph. I wouldn't be surprised if its 55% either, since who is going to vote for Sephiroth while not voting for Cloud as well, and the same with Ganon. I'd expect it would be just a normal Link vs Cloud match, and Link may get close to 55% in that match these days.

The thing that worries me about Link/Ganon and Cloud/Seph is the thoroughness of the original Link/Ganon match, and the much lower votals compared to Cloud/Seph

There's obviously much more overlap with Link/Ganon than with Cloud/Seph. Some people like one but not the other.

Actually, thinking about it, I'm taking Cloud/Seph over Link/Ganon easily.

From what I'm seeing, average in downtown Toronto is between $1200-1600 for a 1 bedroom. I saw a nice place on Yonge between Sheppard and Finch for $1200 which is a 5 minute walk from where I work and a subway station.

The nice thing is that I have cousins living down there, and they offered to let me stay with them for a few weeks while I look for a place, so I don't have to rush.

My thoughts exactly. X/Zero is a top 10 entrant (maybe top 5) in this contest, whereas X/Sigma might not even be top 20.
